On April 21, 2025, in response to the call of “World Acute Myeloid Leukemia Day”, to raise the awareness of the public, patients, and even medical staff about Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), and to promote the standardized diagnosis and treatment of hematologic tumors, the online launch event of “Decoding AML Scientifically and Restarting New Life Together” – “Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) Patient Handbook” was successfully held online, jointly hosted by the Beijing Sunshine Charity Foundation and supported by Astellas. The cumulative number of online participants exceeded 25,000 person-times.
Liu Zhengchen, Chairman of the Beijing Sunshine Charity Foundation, Zhou Su, Head of Medical Affairs at Astellas, and Professor Wang Jianxiang from the Institute of Hematology and Blood Diseases Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Professor Wu Depei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, who served as consultant experts for this handbook project, delivered speeches. Clinical doctors, medical social workers, patient community representatives, and patient representatives, etc., experts and patients, gathered together at the launch event, jointly calling on all sectors of society to pay attention to AML patients and jointly build a sustainable AML whole-course management ecosystem and guarantee system.
As the highlight of this launch event, the “Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) Patient Handbook” was carefully compiled by the Beijing Sunshine Charity Foundation in conjunction with a top-notch national hematology expert team over several months, with the support of Astellas. This handbook is not only the crystallization of medical knowledge and patient experience but also marks a new starting point for the co-construction of a “medical – pharmaceutical – social – patient” diverse ecosystem. It is hoped that through the form of an online launch event, the geographical barriers will be broken, and this handbook will become the “beacon in the palm” for thousands of families, guiding the direction during the treatment process and safeguarding the dignity of life on the long road of disease management.
